Contact With Law Enforcement
This should not be construed as legal advice but only as general guidelines regarding traffic stops with law enforcement.
Activate your emergency flasher to show the officer you are aware you are being pulled over.
Pull over into a safe area that is outside of the lane of traffic if possible.
Turn on your dome lights up front and in back if there are passengers in the back seat.
Turn your vehicle off and put the vehicle in park.
Do not exit your vehicle, instead, put your hands outside of the vehicle or spread out on the steering wheel in full view of the officer.
Get your insurance and registration while the officer is present.
Do not admit guilt when asked if you are aware why the officer pulled you over.
Do be civil and polite to the officer.
The most important part of encountering law enforcement is to remain calm and be deliberate in your words and movement throughout the entire encounter.
